Abnormal - Tighnari
Gender neutral reader, reader is the same species as Tighnari but appears to be human. they join the forest rangers and they feel a connection with Tighnari, only to have issues when their father comes along. Angst with a fluff ending. Suggestive content, nothing nsfw is described though!
--
"You cheated on me?" Your father yelled at your mother, who had just given birth to you.
"I swear, I didn't!" She retorts, everyone looking over to see the argument happening.
"Really? Because that thing looks Human to me!" He tuts, crossing his arms.
After testing, it was found that you were biologically a child of theirs. You were the first child, and this made them fear the idea of all their children looking like a human. When your sibling came along, long ears and tail, they immediately picked a favourite. You never got attention from them, being ignored when you did something good, and your sibling was always praised. You grew to hate everything that you didn't have. The fact your parents were neglecting you socially because of the fact you didn't visibly look like you were part of the same species as them. Your sibling had the same close minded opinion that your parents had, judging you because you didn't look like they were your family.
You applied for jobs, and almost all places denied you when your parents decided to get their "superior child" to apply as well. Your sibling always got the offer, you being rejected, and you were beginning to fear the prospect of being unemployed and being used as an example.
To your pleasure, however, you were accepted for a position as a trainee forest ranger. You leap on the chance, not bothering to tell your parents as you packed a bag and left after checking you had all of your necessary papers.
You see Master Tighnari, and you immediately felt like he was your soulmate. You were so drawn to him, and he didn't seem to know about your unfortunate situation with your family. Sure, he was sassy and borderline rude in certain situations, but you grew to like this side of him.
--
Your dad had shown up in the forest when you and Tighnari were on patrol.
"Ah, Master Tighnari!" Your father calls out, you immediately flinching before turning to leave. Tighnari grabs your shoulder, effectively stopping you. "I'm here for the order of mushrooms you promised me."
"Of course. _, fetch the crates for me while I explain what not to use these mushrooms for." Tighnari asks.
"No." You protest, crossing your arms.
"Excuse me?" Tighnari laughs out, shocked at your response.
"I'm not doing that for him of all people." You eye your father up and down.
"Why not? Whats so different about this man? The fact he has big ears? A big tail?" Tighnari tuts. "You might want to get your eyes tested, because I have those features as well."
"Such a bigoted brat." Your father tuts, you realising what he was trying to do. You walk away, hearing Tighnari apologise for your actions before calling for someone to collect the crates.
That night, Tighnari walked towards you with a fire in his eyes.
"What on earth was that about?" Tighnari asks. "Are you prejudiced towards my kind? I thought better of you, I truly did." He huffs, holding his finger up the moment you open your mouth to explain your situation. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to write you up for this. This is not appropriate, you are supposed to assist people regardless of how they were born."
Before you can explain anything, Tighnari walks away shaking his head.
--
"What do you mean, 'you need more proof you are in need of this medication'?" You gasp, the seller of the medicine you needed to take to avoid your animalistic heats to work as usual.
"Well, we've had people reselling for significantly higher prices I'm afraid to say." The seller shrugs. "You look human, and paperwork can easily be falsified."
You look down at your paper proving your parents were both the species you were, along with the bloodwork to prove it. How come this was no longer effective evidence with this guy? You bought from him multiple times, and this is the time he decides to change it?
--
"Get an earful of this!" Tighnari grumbles, Cyno next to him. "'Im afraid my heat is starting'? They are human, it's utterly pathetic that they're using a valid reason for my kind!"
"...May I have a look at this?" Cyno asks. Tighnari nods, and Cyno pulls out a piece of paper to compare against the letter. "Keep an open mind, Tighnari. You don't have all the information."
"You're telling me to keep an open mind when they're the one to be such a bigot?" Tighnari raises a brow, Cyno shrugging before leaving for his work.
The next day, you were unable to get out of bed. Wanting to scream at how hot you felt in the moment, wanting to cry because you wanted to get some sort of comfort from someone, wanting to call out for Tighnari as if he was your mate. You're wrapped up in a bundle of blankets, none of them creating any comfort for you. You scream into your pillow, thinking of the days you'll be suffering alone from this. You would be lucky if anyone brought you supplies to get through this, let alone Tighnari.
Meanwhile, Tighnari had picked up on a particularly strong odour. It wasn't unpleasant, it drew him in, but he was confused when he sensed it coming from your house. As much as he wanted to come along to at least see if you were lazing around like he suspected, he had to deal with several emergencies.
It takes him two days to complete this, and in that time the scent grew stronger and you still hadn't shown up. He picks up some supplies - water, food, medicine - before telling the team he's going along to check on you.
He approaches the door, hearing you crying out in pain. You were clearly suffering, and he looked into the window to see you were curled up as tightly as you could. You couldn't create tears, dry crying as you were silently screaming for any assistance. After assessing the room and realising you lived alone and nobody else was there, he begins to connect the dots Cyno seemed to know from the start.
He opens the door, you looking up out of shock as you see him approaching you. His scent is euphoric for you, and you really had to hold yourself back from pulling him in for comfort.
Tighnari prioritised hydrating and feeding you before sitting on the bed, pulling you in to start hugging you. He feels you gripping at him, and he looks over at a paper that glided down to the floor. The paperwork contained your mother and father's names, and he realised the true reason you didn't help that man.
"That was your dad that day, wasn't it?" Tighnari asked, you nodding as you held him close.
"I'm sorry, I know I should have explained my circumstances the first day I was here." You whimper out, Tighnari wrapping his tail around you. "I went to get my medication, but they changed their policies. My paperwork isn't enough now, I have to physically prove it now." You cry out, Tighnari kissing you on the cheek.
"I'm going to stay with you to get you through his cycle." Tighnari explains, holding you closer as he begins to place his head into the crook of your neck.
"... I'm going to need more than a cuddle session to get through this." You sheepishly admit, Tighnari smirking knowingly.
"Of course you will." Tighnari responds. "And I, as a partner, am going to get you through this."
--
After your cycle was past its worst, Tighnari was able to give you the medicine you normally took to suppress these symptoms. He also pulled some strings to order some extra medicine after explaining your special circumstances. When your father next showed up, Tighnari made sure he wouldn't insult you for being a 'defective child'.
Your parents, eventually, discovered you became very close to Tighnari. They can't help but show up, asking Tighnari if he knew you were an 'abnormal individual', and you hear Tighnari slapping them on the head with logic. He did some research, and it turns out you just happened to be born with a recessive gene that removed the physical features - you were still very much a hybrid like him. He hands your parents the references he used, telling them to educate themselves before talking down about their child.
Tighnari became your mate, and it was the best thing that could have happened to you. He, unlike your parents, educated himself when he was alerted to your situation. Cyno had actually been a big part of finding the research, him being the first one to figure out your situation since he spotted you getting your medication the cycle before the one you were unable to do so. Cyno became your friend as well, defending you when someone started badmouthing you when you and Tighnari became public.

Modern Jobs Headcanons
What jobs would The Chain have in a modern au! (dont ask, i came up with it while in the shower)
Wild was definitely a police officer or some sort of military personnel before he had a near death experience and lost his memories. After being discharged, Wild got a new job as a ranger/camp counsellor!
Warriors is also another military soldier! But unlike Wild, he has spent quite some time raising through the ranks and became a well respected captain.
Four would work as an apprentice at his grandfather’s forge! Even though Four is already a talented smith, he really enjoys working alongside his grandpa.
Legend works along side Ravio at a pawn shop! Neither of them own it but they both enjoy working there.(even if Ravio tries to scam people) And Legend gets to take some items home if their been on the shelves for too long
Wind...doesn’t actually have a ‘real job’ BUT! He does help around the neighborhood! Sometimes you could find him mowing the lawns of elderly neighbors or walking dogs!
Hyrule has a couple of jobs actually. Some days you’ll find him working at the local floral shop while other times he’s tutoring kids at the library.
Twilight is obviously a ranch hand, but you’ll most likely find him working more with the cattle/animals than the crops. It’s also not uncommon to see him helping at the Lon Lon Ranch and making deliveries for the owners!
Time, (the milk man) the main delivery man for Lon Lon Ranch! During the day you can see glimpses of him as he runs/drives around town but at night he hosts self defense classes! And when ever he has some spare time, you can see- or well hear him giving ocarina lessons!
Sky is kinda hard to pick for.. I can totally see him as a wood carpenter but I can also seem him as pilot for the air force! Hmmmm...

Description: In 1968, George Lanigan leaves the University of Maryland and sets off on the journey of his life. He volunteers to serve his country in the Vietnam War and enlists in the army where he becomes an elite Special Forces advisor in a top-secret program. The United States is clandestinely training the Cambodian Army, Forces Armees Nationales Khmeres, and Lanigan is at the heart of the mission. In this personal memoir, LTC George R. Lanigan, USA (Retired), adapts his forty-year-old letters and correspondence to his parents into an emotionally compelling and suspenseful narrative that relates his daily life of survival and political tension. It's an inside, firsthand look at a rare, and previously classified, Vietnam War experience. But its scope reaches beyond the war itself and illuminates the realities soldiers face returning home, building a life, and even visiting war zones four decades later. Its openness and honesty will resonate with war veterans, their friends and family members, those suffering post-traumatic stress disorder, and people of all ages who are interested in American history. Readers will learn about war life, a volatile political environment, and how personal experiences weave together to create the person one eventually becomes.

Today I found the ShadowDark rpg website (link) and less than 24 hours later I have created three characters that I am now very attached to. Since we’re not yet finished with our Pathfinder campaign(#10/10 campaign despite the pain), it will be a while before we get to ShadowDark. It’s possible that I won’t even end up playing these characters because we’ll be rolling stats at session zero. So I wanted to share them here.
Bunty Faolán — last name pronounced “Fway-lon” — First name means lamb, last name means wolf
Young human woman
Bunty is always innocent, cheerful, and sweet. Normal. But then weird stuff begins to happen and she just does not seem phased at all. And then you start to notice little things about her. There’s an itch in the back of your mind that plucks at your instincts for danger, the hair on the back of your neck raising up and a shiver despite the warm weather. Her smile begins to fill you with a sense of unease.
(Eldritch marked? Some kind of connection with birds ? An auger? Most likely seer class, but possibly priest)
Neutral or Chaos alignment, follows Loki or Verdantix
High WIS and CHA, low STR, (surprising ^CON?)
“Just Kusha” (Nakusha Sharpclaw) — First name means unwanted child
Female half-orc
You don’t see many female half-orcs, and when you do they seem to have found their place in one heritage over the other. It’s hard to cater to the expectations of two very different cultural standards at the same time, although some try. Kusha, has chosen another route, wrenching herself from both societies quite thoroughly. She is harsh and gruff, snapping at you for any perceived offense, sensitive to prejudice, and unwilling to show vulnerability. But if you can look beneath her prickly exterior you might find her insecurity and longing to find where she can be accepted.
(Desert Rider or Ranger. Leaning ranger, hermit)
Lawful or Neutral, Follows Odin or Aelorin
High STR and DEX, low CHA and WIS
Bái Sījìng or Hēi Sījìng(白思静 / 黑思靜)— pronounced “bye” or “hey” “suh-jing” rhymes with ring — means white quiet thought or black quiet thought, though changing sī 思 to sì 四 would change it to white or black quiet death
Female Dragonborn
Though she strikes an intimidating figure, tall and lethally graceful, Sījìng is actually rather frail. Her inner turmoil and sadness has taken a physical toll on her body. She doesn’t talk much about her past, and when she does it is with cryptic and unclear answers. You think that she is mourning someone, a lover maybe. But she also seems to be waiting for something, and you’re not sure what.
Two options for builds, light or dark (her surname 性is literally white 白 or black 黑). The light build is as Lawful Wizard following Madeera. The dark build is as a Chaotic Ras-Godai Assasin following Memnon.
High INT and DEX, low CON and WIS

Chapter 26 part 3
Zadakine warriors, seeing their opportunity, clambered over the rubble eagerly. Going over the top of the pile, the fighting shifted in their favour as they were now coming down the slope. The Nymus soldiers were better equipped and trained than their Zadakine opponents, but the weight of numbers and momentum was with the Zadakine. The Nymus began to fall back from the rubble to regroup. The Zadakine, reaching the bottom of the breach stopped to regroup, gathering their forces to secure their foothold within the city. The Golta Rangers reached the top of the rubble and took up positions, firing their rifles to ensure the Nymus could not effectively reform to counter attack. Upon the walls, Shogun, covered in Junlock blood, looked down on the fighting below. The defences were being breached at the gate and at the broken wall, and the defenders were being hard-pressed by enemies pouring out from the siege towers. Nymus warriors on the walls were beginning to cast off their armour and shields and then leap from the walls to escape back into the city. Shogun snarled as he rushed along the top, barging allies and enemies out of the way until he was above the gate. Then, without hesitation, Shogun leapt from the battlements. He curled into a ball, falling like a stone, directly onto one of the tightly-packed enemy Ivos mercenaries. Shogun slammed down, crushing Ivos under him and knocking others off their feet. Shogun himself, having mastered the Anvil of Moi-Lon technique, stood up unharmed. Without hesitation, Shogun began to slash all around with his blade, cutting down Ivos who had yet to recover from his landing. The defending Ivos drove forwards while their enemies were disrupted. The attackers began to retreat and then fall into a confused route back through the gateway. In the panic, men became packed together, struggling to get through the gates all at once, trampling their wounded under their hooves. Those at the back of the retreat were mercilessly cut down by the defenders as they struggled to escape. As the remaining attackers managed to flee out of the gates, Shogun glanced around again. Though this was a victory, the wider situation was becoming untenable. The exodus from the outer walls was now in full swing with any Nymus that could, escaping the rampaging Junlocks. The Zadakine were more cautious than their mercenary allies, and continued to move troops through the breach in the wall but not advance further, content to build up their strength within the city. The officers with the defending Ivos recognised their situation and began calling for a retreat. Having just chased off their rivals, these mercenaries were in high spirits, despite the broader situation, and began to fall back into the city in good order.
Shogun gritted his teeth. Retreating from the enemy went against his instincts, but even he could not fight an army alone. Reluctantly he followed the Ivos Mercenaries. The city’s outer wall was impressive, but not their only defence. There was a secondary, inner wall. While smaller and less impressive, its position within the city made this secondary wall more difficult to attack and its smaller circumference made it easier for defenders to concentrate their forces. However, Shogun was shocked when he reached the inner wall and found it was closed.

GOLLIF the fluffiest of fluff! Married or not ;)
John/Delenn Weekend Promptathon | Read at AO3
N.B. "valer’sa" is basically the Minbari version of goddaughter.
Delenn entered her quarters only to be caught in a war zone. When she had left the quarters she shared with John and David that morning, they had been pristine: a few old trinkets of John still left on shelves, cushions neatly pressed, David’s toys stacked in the wooden toy box his grandparents had given him. Delenn was not prepared for the state of her quarters after only three hours away at a trade meeting. Cushions had been upended; debris from the battle littered the floor. The sofa and chairs were placed at two separate ends of the living area, providing cover for the warring factions. This is what happens when your father is left to his own devices.
“David?”
A head popped above the parapet; David’s familiar brown curls jostling as he dodged the paper ball thrown from the enemy camp. “Mama! We’re trying to rescue the President!”
“I see. And who is we?”
On the left side of the battle was David, Susan’s daughter Sofie, and Ambassador Varenn’s son Rasaan. Sofie was wielding a paper mâché denn’bok that solely proved a threat to the few remaining trinkets John owned. Rasaan, displaying his Worker Caste heritage well, had created a suitable base of operations to rescue the President. On the right side of the battle was JJ, Lon, and Na’Leth. The young Narn was holding a plastic K’tok, similar to the one her father owned. Lon, who had his father, Vir’s, temperament rather than that of his namesake, was nevertheless still throwing balled up paper at Delenn’s son and valer’sa. JJ’s throw bumped against Delenn’s ankle.
“Jeffrey.”
Michael’s son flushed. “Sorry, Aunt Delenn.”
Drawing in a calming breath, Delenn returned her attention back to her son. “Where is your father?”
“The President is in an undisclosed location!” Delenn stared at her son. He pointed towards the bedroom. “The hostages are in there.”
Removing herself from the line of fire, Delenn crossed the living space and opened the sliding doors to the bedroom she shared with John. Behind her, the rescue attempt continued to wage. In front of her was a blanket fort; the bedding she had slept under the previous night now propped up. Underneath the linens sat the President of the Interstellar Alliance, cradling Stephen’s infant daughter, Julie, in his arms, while he read her a story.
“And the young boy climbed to the top of the hill. His gok stayed by his ankles with each step; four little paws accompanying his big feet. There, at the top, was the crystal spires. He had never seen so much colour before.” Julie’s hand pressed against the illustrations; John chuckling as she ran her small fingers across the splashes of colour. “Hey, maybe when you’re big enough, you can see the real thing, Sweetheart.”
Julie’s gaze shifted and her hand waved in the direction of Delenn. She quickly joined the pair under the blanket fort, her lips stealing a quick kiss from John as she sat beside him. “Enjoying your afternoon?”
“Well, it’s my favourite kidnapping so far.” John turned another page and let Julie marvel over the illustrations of Tuzanor. He then turned and kissed Delenn once again; his free hand reaching up to stroke her cheek. “Have you come to rescue me, Entil’Zha?”
“I am afraid I have been captured as well, Mister President.”
John beamed. “We’ll just have to make the best of it, I suppose.”
Delenn had every intention of spending some uninterrupted time in her husband’s presence. Unfortunately, it was at this point that the daring rescue mission turned dangerous and the sound of a glass breaking brought both John and Delenn to their feet.
“The President is going to make a daring escape attempt and check that there are no Ranger casualties.” John kissed her once, quickly, before opening the sliding doors. “Entil’Zha, I will come back for you.”
She beamed. “You better.”
As her husband instructed the children to be more careful, listing the ways they could have been hurt, Delenn settled underneath the blanket fort with Julie and continued to read. Soon after, with a shaking head, President Sheridan returned. They were not rescued for another hour, when Captain Ivanova made a final assault and took Sofie home for dinner.

I really enjoy the pokemon AU, and I love the idea of the BotW map being a pokemon region, I think it works really well! If it's not spoilery, where are all the gyms located? Or other classic pokemon locations, like the league?
You have no idea how happy I am to hear that you're enjoying my au!! Most of the location's aren't spoilery, but there are a couple that are not in this list that are important.
All the main towns in botw are still there, but they're all expanded. Since it's not a post-Calamity setting, there won't be all the ruins and destruction around. But there are also more towns and settlements. I've got a fun little powerpoint to help me remember routes and locations, but since that does have some spoilers on it, I'll just describe the basics below the cut. But tl:dr, here's a brief map with most of the main points of interest marked off:
Kakariko village - This is the place where Professor Flora and Professor Sun have their "home base". The two of them are pretty mobile with their research, but their physical lab space is located here.
Hateno Village - Location of the first Gym. Also the location of Purah's lab, a scientist who's main research subject is the pokedex. She's the one to go to for cataloging, reporting, and recording encounters with pokemon and compiles all the data for trainers.
Dracozu Village - This is one of the towns I've made myself. It's located around the Spring of Courage in Faron Woods, and home to the second Gym. It's very similar to the Village of the Dragons that Iris is from from Pokeani. It's a small, tight-knit community, and can be intimidating for new trainers to go to.
Lurelin Village - The coastal village on the other side of Faron and home of the third Gym.
Old Castle Town - Up on the Great Plateau, another town that I've built. This on is much busier and lively, centered around the fourth Gym, which in this au is the Temple of Time. There's a smaller town on the other side of the plateau (which is where Hyrule is from), but most of the central hub is in Old Castle Town.
Kara Kara Bazaar - The site of the fifth Gym. Gerudo Town is still around and still has its vai-only rule, but the bazaar is much more expanded. There are merchants from other regions that will travel and sell their goods here, and it's a very culturally diverse area.
Ordon Village - The valley directly south of Mt. Satori is where Ordon Village is. Similar to Dracozu Village, it's a small, tight-knit community that has its own way of life. The villagers there honor the Lord of the Mountain over other Mythical or Legendary pokemon, and it's a high honor to be named the Warden of the Lord of the Mountain.
Satori Mountain - Home of the Lord of the Mountain, Satori. Under joint protection of the Rangers and the Warden from Ordon Village. It's a sanctuary for pokemon, and often a target of poachers because of it.
Rito Village - The central part of the village is similar to botw, but there are more houses and businesses along the road looping around the lake. Home of the Rito and the sixth Gym.
The Flight Range - Home base for the Hebra-Tebantha division of the Rangers. Also the location of the Seventh Gym.
The Forgotten Temple - A historic site of interest for Professor Sun.
Hyrule Castle - The surrounding city is Castletown (not to be confused with Old Castle Town), the largest city in the region. Hyrule Castle itself is a very important building, as it houses the official Elite Four and Champion battles, as well as the Ranger HQ. There is also a section of the castle dedicated to the Battle Chateau, a rather elite set of fields to compete on outside of the Gym Challenge.
Mabe Village - Located southeast of Castletown in Hyrule Field. Home of the Lon Lon Academy for Service Pokemon, although the actual ranch is just outside of town. It's a pretty small village, and the hometown of Elite Four Member Legend and Top Coordinator Fable.
The Lost Woods - A mysterious forest that is rumored to be cursed. Those who wander in never come out, except there are rumors of sightings of Elite Four Member Time navigating the woods freely. Another target for poachers, though the threat of the mist is often deterrent enough.
Akkala Citadel - An intense training ground for trainers. Elite Four Member Warriors spends most of his time here, training and battling alongside top trainers in the region and beyond. There is a small city built around the cliffsides, though the area is much more of a visiting place than a living place.
Tarrey Town - Home of the eighth Gym. Just outside of town, further up the hill is Robbie's research lab, and the leading expert on pokeballs. He has also been recruited by Professor Flora to aid in her research into ancient technology, providing prototype replicas with varied success.

Chapter 3
Chapter 5
Josie sat on the porch swing in her parent’s backyard, swinging forward and back aimlessly. She stared off into the distance, not focusing on any one particular thing. After she had stormed out of the house, she had faintly heard the front door open and close, and the front door to the Parker household do the same. Peter and May must have left after her little outburst.
She had almost immediately regretted it, but if there had been one thing in her professional life she had learned, it was to "commit to the bit”. So she had continued her dramatic exit. Josie laughed to herself, but sobered back quickly. She was still having a hard time understanding what had happened between her and Peter. They had been fine until a few days after the giant lizard, who she later had found out was Gwen’s boss, when he started acting strange and kind of distant. And it had only gotten progressively worst.
She was startled by the back door opening. She turned her head to see her mom approaching her with a blanket of her own. Josie shifted over slightly to make room for Marian, and smiled slightly at her.
The two women sat in silence for a few minutes, before Josie finally broke it.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make a scene. I’m just…frustrated.” She said, putting her head on her mother’s shoulders, “I just don't understand what happened. One day, we were fine. And then suddenly, we weren’t?”
Marian sighed. She felt for her daughter. Peter had been the first friend she had made when they moved across the country. She remembered that day well.
“Josephine! Can you help your dad bring in those boxes from the back of the truck?” Marian was currently unpacking some kitchen supplies from their boxes. Luckily, everything seemed to have arrived intact, so far.
“Sure, mom!” Her nine year old daughter called from up the stairs. She heard her little feet stomping down the stairs, and then the front door pushing open. She was proud of Josie. She had taken their big move in stride, never complaining. She had said many times that she was excited to live in a new place and make new friends. Josie had always been a helpful child, always offering to assist her parents in taking care of her two little brothers, who at the time were 6 and 4. She was willing to take on a lot for a third grader. Marian’s heart swelled with pride when she peeked out the front window and saw Josie helping her father lift boxes out of the moving truck.
Mrs. Butler’s eyes widened in fear when Josie suddenly tripped over the curb and landed face first on the sidewalk. She stepped out onto the patio right as Josie started wailing in pain and grabbing her scraped knee. Before either of the Butler parents could reach their daughter, however, a streak of brown hair raced from the yard next door.
A young boy, about the same age as Josie, bent down and grabbed Josie’s knee. “Oh no! Are you okay? That was a scary fall!”
Josie nodded silently and continued to hold her injured knee. “I’m Peter Parker! I live next door with my Aunt May and Uncle Ben! I could bring you a cool Power Rangers band-aid! Do you want to be friends??”
The small girl smiled at the boy from next door and nodded, suddenly forgetting about her bloody limb, “Sure! I’m Josie! We just moved here from Arizona! My daddy got a cool new job, so we just packed up all our things and came here! I’m really excited. One day, I want to be on Broadway!”
Sam chuckled at the sight before him and approached the pair, “Hey, Peter! I’m Josie’s dad, Sam Butler. Josie, go inside and let mommy clean up your knee and then maybe you and Peter can keep playing in the yard? As long as it’s okay with your Aunt and Uncle of course!”
Josie nodded excitedly and rushed into the house, “Let me go ask them!!” Peter said hurriedly before sprinting back over to his house and bursting open the front door. The two parent’s made eye contact with each other from across the yard and smiled at the interaction that had just taken place. It seemed their little girl had made her first friend.
Brought back to the present, Marian frowned slightly when she felt her shoulder grow wet. “Josie, sweetie look at me,” when Josie didn’t look up at her, she gently lifted her head with her hand. As she suspected, her daughter had a few stray tears rolling down her cheeks. “Josephine. Why don’t you tell me what happened? Help me understand what happened between the two of you, so maybe we can try to fix it together. I hate to see you this sad over something that happened so long ago.” She brushed Josie’s stray curly hair away from her face, and wiped the tears from her cheeks.
Josie leaned back and looked at her mother doubtfully. “Mom, I don’t even really get what happened. I don’t think you will be able to either. It’s just…bizarre honestly.”
“Try me,” Marian responded, patting her daughter’s leg gently.
Josie took a deep breath before diving into the story.
It had been a couple weeks since Dr. Lizard had attacked New York. Everything was slowly getting back to normal. Josie tried to be there for both of her friends who had just lost their father figures in the span of a few months.
“Peter! Slow down! Pete, wait! Peter Parker, I know you can hear me!” Josie was trying to catch up with Peter on his walk home from school. They usually walked together, since it was a bit of trek, and today after school he ended had just left without her. He had been doing that since he and Gwen had split up actually, but this was the first time she hadn’t been able to catch up with him right away. She sighed in relief as he finally slowed his pace so she could catch up with him.
“Geez Peter, I wasn’t expecting a full work out today,” she breathed heavily, clutching her side in pain, “You might have to carry me the rest of the way, I’m tired.” She laughed at her own joke, but when she looked up at Peter, he wasn’t grinning like he normally would at her antics. “Peter? Are you okay?”
Peter nodded and looked at his best friend, “Yeah, I’m fine. Look, sorry I left without you, I just was in a rush because I’m supposed to have dinner with Aunt May tonight.”
Josie shrugged and adjusted her backpack, “And what about the other times?” She laughed humorlessly, “You know you can’t lie to me, Pete. What’s going on? You’ve been weird for a while. I know you and Gwen splitting up hasn’t been easy for you…and you still won’t tell me exactly what happened between the two of you. But I sort of feel like you’re trying to…dump me too.” Josie’s volume tapered at the end of her sentence. She was afraid to say how she was feeling out loud, out of fear that saying it would make it happen. Peter Parker was her best friend in the whole world. Sure, she loved Gwen, but if given the choice between the two, she’d choose Peter every time. It had come as a bit of a shock when she found out that Gwen and Peter were dating, but she had eventually come to accept it. Right when she had, they split. Gwen had been pretty vague about their breakup too, but she had at least said that Peter was the one who initiated it.
Peter looked at Josie. She was staring down at her feet, kicking rocks out her path as they continued down the sidewalk. He had been trying to distance himself from her ever since Captain Stacy had asked him to stay away from Gwen. He had been right. Being Spider-Man put the people he loved in danger, and he couldn’t protect them all. He would never forgive himself if something happened to Aunt May or Gwen…or Josie. He had already failed Uncle Ben and Captain Stacy. He couldn’t fail again. But he was having a hard time staying away. He was drawn to Gwen. And Josie, try as he might, he just couldn’t let her go.
“I just think I need some space,” Peter said painfully. He saw Josie’s eyes close and her shoulder’s immediately sag in defeat. She nodded and looked up at him.
“Yeah, okay, yeah that makes sense. I get it. You’ve gone through a lot these last few months. You need time and space to figure it out. Just know I’m here for you, Pete. Always.” The pair had arrived at their respective homes. Peter waved half-heartedly at Josie, and she waved back before darting into her house.
***
Several days passed, and Josie was just trying to keep her head low and ride out the rest of the school year. She and Peter were not really speaking, and neither were her and Gwen. Josie was sitting alone at a table in her Chemistry class waiting for class to start, when Peter walked into the room. She avoided eye contact with him, but felt her heart rate pick up slightly when she caught him moving toward her in her peripheral vision.
He plopped down beside her, but didn’t make any attempt to start a conversation. In every other class the two friends shared, which was all but Josie’s drama class and English, Peter had gone to great lengths to avoid interaction with her. He had chosen new seats that were on the opposite end of the room as her, he had asked other students to partner up with him during in class and out of school work, and he had even started arriving late to some of them, just to avoid the risk of walking in at the same time as her. But today, he seemed to have changed his mind.
Finally, the brunette girl could no longer take the tension, and broke the silence. “Uh, Peter? I thought you said you needed some space?” She turned to look at him and he was already staring at her. He smiled slightly and leaned closer to her with a shrug.
“Yeah, but it’s kind of lonely in space, don’t you think? All alone, in the vacuum of the universe, with nothing but your thoughts to comfort you?” He replied. His tone of voice held a bit of comedy to it, but in his eyes she could see that he really had missed her. She smiled at him and bumped her shoulders against his, before turning forward as the class began. Maybe everything would turn out okay for the two of them.
“So I don’t get it,” Aunt May said to her nephew after he had finished telling her what had happened between he and Josie. “It seems like everything worked out just fine between the two of you. You made up and everything was fine. So why the outburst? What aren’t you telling me, Peter?”
After her dramatic exit from the dining table, Peter had immediately been filled with guilt and regret. He had been a terrible friend to Josie. He had been selfish, cruel, and stupid. He hadn’t treated her the way she deserved to be treated. She had always shown him grace, and forgiven him whenever had had upset her as kids. He had never seen her react to a situation the way she had as she left the house. He couldn’t sit in the house any longer, knowing that he had been the cause of her mood shift.
He just hadn’t known how to react around her. Sure, she had texted him, telling him she hoped to see him at dinner, but that was just how Josie was. She was a peacemaker. She didn’t really have any true enemies. She wasn’t that kind of person. Whenever she was even mentioned, by Aunt May, Mr. Butler, or even the news, he always felt guilt crash over him in waves for the way he had just let their friendship end.
“Peter? Honey, please, I’m trying to help you two. It breaks my heart to know that you and Josie have been living with this, well whatever this is, alone for the past few years. It’s not healthy. And you two deserve closure at least. You don’t have to stay friends, but you at least owe it to yourselves to work this out.” Aunt May grasped her nephew’s hand in hers and met his eyes with a piercing gaze.
Peter breathed heavily, and hung his head in shame. “The thing is that’s not really where the story ends. Things were fine for a while…”
“So, I made sure to reserve seven seats! Enough for my parents and brothers, and three for you, Aunt May and Gwen. You can all sit together. And if you’ll allow me a moment to brag, I got you guys some pretty killer seats.” Josie and Peter were walking home from school in the spring of their senior year. The next evening was the opening night of the spring musical, and Josie was playing the lead. She was feeling mixed emotions about the event, but the one that stuck out the most was excitement. And anxiety. Apart from her family, the most important person in attendance was the NYFA musical theatre department director. He was coming to see the show to decide if she was going to be accepted into their conservatory program the following year. A lot was riding on this show, and it was important to her that all of her biggest supporters were there.
Peter nodded excitedly, “I can’t wait! You’re going to be amazing, like always. And Aunt May is probably going to cry, like always.” He chuckled and the pair stopped in front of Josie’s house.
“House opens at 6:30, Parker! You better not be late!” Josie stated as she backed toward her front door. Peter saluted in lieu of a response and continued the few feet to his own home.
***
Outside, it was pouring rain. Peter was sitting in front of the TV mindlessly flipping through the channels. He had dropped Gwen back at her apartment about thirty minutes before and had come home to an empty house. His aunt hadn’t left a note, so he assumed she was working late. Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the front door. Peter flipped the TV off, and stood up from the couch. Who would be knocking on his door this late? It was almost midnight. He opened the front door, and his confusion only grew.
“Josie?” Before he could say anything else, she was shoving a folded piece of paper into his hands. He looked down at the object she had given him and saw a playbill for Midtown High’s production of Anything Goes. It all suddenly fell into place. “Josie, I-“
“You know what? Just don’t.” Josie said in an eerily calm voice, “Don’t bother. I’m sick and tired of your lame ass apologies. You knew how important this was to me! You KNEW. I’ve dreamt of getting into that conservatory since we were eleven! I needed you there cheering me on. Do you know how humiliating and devastating it is to look out in the audience and see those seats empty? It’s almost worse knowing you missed it because you were out with Gwen. At least if she had been there, you could have blamed it on traffic, or laryngitis. But you both let me down. You keep letting me down, Peter. I’m not expecting you to spend every waking moment with me, we’re not nine anymore but Jesus, have a little respect.”
Peter looked at the girl before him. She was drenched, and so was the program he was currently clutching in his hands. She caught his line of thinking quickly. She understood him like that.
“Yeah. I almost didn’t come up here. I almost wanted you to just figure it out. I stood out in the rain looking at your front door for maybe 10 minutes before I came up these stairs. But I’m tired. I’m tired of you disappointing me again and again and again and getting away with it. I keep letting you get away with it. And for what? Because you’re my best friend?” She knew the real reason deep down, but wouldn’t allow herself to believe it. “Well, that’s not gonna work anymore. I’m done letting you walk all over me. Ever since everything went down last year, you’ve pulled further and further away from me. At first, I thought it was because you were just too enthralled with Gwen to care about me. But then we moved past that and you STILL pulled away. You have missed basically every major life event for me and my family for the past year, with no explanation. If you don’t want to be my friend anymore just say so! I think I deserve at least that much!”
In that moment, Peter knew he had a choice. She was giving him a way to cut her loose so he could protect her. Gwen was a lost cause. She knew too much, and he relied on her to understand what he was really going through. But Josie, she was blissfully unaware that the young man she was currently reaming was galavanting around in blue and red spandex with the sun went down. He could give her a reason to never want to speak to him again, and then maybe, just possibly, he could keep her safe, by having her at a distance. So that’s what he did.
He looked into Josephine Butler’s eyes and said the one thing he never expected himself to say to the woman he loved most in the world. “You’re right. I don’t want to be your friend. I tried to let you down easy, hoping you’d get the hint, but clearly that isn’t working.” He looked away from her in that moment. He couldn’t bare to see her face any longer, but he had to drive the last nail into the coffin. “I didn’t want to have to say it, Josie. But I just, I don’t think you and I are meant to be in each other’s lives anymore. You just kind of…annoy me.” He heard her sharp intake of breath, and he knew he had said enough.
Josie didn’t even bother replying. He heard the shuffling of her feet as she turned to walk down the steps of his porch, and out of his life. He looked up to see her standing in the pouring rain, just looking at him. Face wet with a mixture of tears and the weather from above. She opened her mouth to speak, and he braced himself internally for her words, but he wasn’t expecting to hear:
“Not that you care, but I just wanted you to know. I got in.” And without another glance in his direction, she trudged back to her house and slammed the door behind her.
Present Day
“And after that I just kind of was alone. He had Gwen and I had…myself. She talked to me sometimes, when he wasn’t around, but I really wanted nothing to do with either of them. We graduated and I was able to focus on other things. And then when Gwen died, I did what I always do and tried to make peace, but he wasn’t interested I guess. I think that’s when I really let it go.” Josie and Marian both had tears in their eyes. Josie had had time to heal from that night and was tearful mostly because of her mother’s reaction. Marian couldn’t believe what she had heard. The sweet and awkward boy from next door, who she always thought would be Josie’s perfect match had broken her heart, and she hadn’t even known.
“I’m so sorry, Josephine. If I had known that you two had parted ways in such a nasty way, I wouldn’t have tried so hard to get you two to talk again. I love Peter, but you are my daughter and you deserve to be treated like a rare treasure by everyone you know.” Marian cupped her daughter’s cheek gently and gave her a small smile.
“I didn’t tell you because part of me was embarrassed that I hadn’t seen the signs earlier and let it get to the point where he had to dump me like that. But I also knew that if I told you, you’d tell May, and the two of you would do what you always do and try to fix it. And I really just don’t think Peter wanted it to be fixed. I still don’t. I mean you saw the way he was at dinner.” Josie looked at her mother with her sad gaze and she swore her heart broke all over again.
“I wouldn’t have if that was what you wanted.” Marian assured her. “I-“
Before she could say anything else, Mrs. Butler was cut off by the backdoor being opened. Neither women expected Peter Parker to step out onto the back porch. Marian wrapped her arm around her daughter’s shoulder and looked at Peter with a look of disappointment, and it broke Peter’s heart. It was obvious that Josie had told her mom everything. He couldn’t blame her. He had just gotten the same look from his aunt.
“Hi. I’m sorry to interrupt, and so late. But, Josie, I was hoping you and I could talk?” He asked. He was speaking to Josie, but it was almost a question for the both of them. He knew that Marian would send him away if Josie even gave an inkling that she wasn’t interested in speaking to him.
Thankfully, she nodded her head, and kissed her mother on the cheek, “I’ll be in soon,” She said, as the Butler matriarch stood up and brushed past Peter on her way back into the house. She gave one last glance at the pair, before shutting the door behind her. Peter hesitated for a moment before sitting down next to Josie. Against her better judgment, she pulled her blanket over slightly and allowed him to slip underneath like they had done when they were kids and Peter couldn’t help but smile.
Josie’s face remained serious. “Okay, you wanted to talk. So talk.”

Description: In a gripping memoir that reads like a spy novel, one man recounts his personal experience with Operation Phoenix, the program created to destroy the Vietcong’s shadow government, which thrived in the rural communities of South Vietnam.
Stuart A. Herrington was an American intelligence advisor assigned to root out the enemy in the Hau Nghia province. His two-year mission to capture or kill Communist agents operating there was made all the more difficult by local officials who were reluctant to cooperate, villagers who were too scared to talk, and VC who would not go down without a fight. Herrington developed an unexpected but intense identification with the villagers in his jurisdiction–and learned the hard way that experiencing war was profoundly different from philosophizing about it in a seminar room.
Review: One of the best books on Vietnam that I've ever read. Published shortly after the fall of Saigon, the book has a timeliness that is readily apparent to the reader. The thoughts are fresh, the memories are crystal clear, and the painful mental wounds of the experience are sharp. This is a book about the Phoenix program that is 100% about everything BUT the phoenix program. There is very little mention of the PRU teams, and the author is brutally honest about his failure to actually get a phoenix program working in his area. Instead he uses a mix of other tools to attack the viet cong infrastructure and spends much of his time crafting his skills as an interrogator and on the military intelligence he is able to exploit from those discussions. The book is above all else, one of the best on ARVN/US relations at this level, on how to interrogate and exploit that info, and a really good look at the 72 Easter Offensive.

Hi! I really like your Ninjago PG-13 AU, you're doing awesome 💖 I was just curious that, if it were a TV show, who you would cast for each part?
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying it!!!!!
Hmmm.... Usually when I imagine the cast I see it as more of an anime with voice actors, all the same that is a really fun question.
And if any of these actors or actresses are in any kind of trouble, I deeply apologize 🙏
Also, this is going to be long because I'm going qith the easiest characters to cast to the hardest
Right off the top of my head is Sarah Paulson as Misako because the woman SLAYED in AHS and Ratched because she already has the 'way' of playing a smart and vulnerable character, which I accidentally made in the rewrite😅 And don’t tell me you'd get a pit in your stomach if you heard her as Misako screaming for Lloyd; the woman has phenomenal range.
Next is Johnny Depp as Pythor for because of his work as Jack Sparrow and Grindlewald. Plus, I think it'd be cool to hear/see him be a cunning snake man.
Next villain is Jason Davis Frank as Garmadon because he used to play Tommy Oliver in the Power Rangers series. Idk, I just find it oddly symbolic and ironic because the guy who played the hero is now playing a villain.
I'm taking a page out of the movie's book and casting Jackie Chan as Wu. He was hilarious in Shanghai Knights and I can see him being the serious and funny wise old mentor of the group.
I don't know how many people will get a kick out of this, but I'd cast either David Tennant or Ralph Fiennes as Skales. David Tennant because of his role as Crowley in Good Omens and Ralph Fiennes because he dies a good snake-y voice.
Skalidor, the Constricti general gets the actor Benedict Cumberbatch because of hiw low his voice is. And don’t tell me there are communities that would LOVE an evil snake general that constricts his opponents to kill them that has the voice/face of Benedict Cumberbatch.
Nya, like Pythor, is a tie between Maise Williams and Sadie Sink. The two have the teenage sister attitude down to a T.
Jay has two picks: either John Mulaney or Ethan Nestor-Darling(Crankgameplays). Idk, the two have such 'Jay' energy and it sticks.
Cole would be voiced by Thomas Sanders because he has a low voice, his work on his series Sandrrs Sidea and other projects is PHENOMENAL, and I can see him playing the 'big brother' or leader of the group and still have the range to have a good time, like he has the low, authoritive voice, but he still laughs and goofs around like a kid and be taken less as a threat because he has the voice for it.
Zane has three very interesting fan casts: Matthew Gray Gubler, Wi Ja-Hoon, and Bryan Dechart. Matthew Gray Gubler because he's played a smart character in Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, who is also very talkative. Wi Ja-Hoon from Squid Game does not speak english. I don’t know if he'd learn more, but Zane doesn't talk much, but when he does I always imagine he just sounds DIFFERENT from the rest, like he's either from somewhere else or from someWHEN else. Idk, whatever makes Zane even more likable and different and more of a fan favorite.🤷😅🤣😂 Byran Dechart because I just find it funny and Inlove Connor💜
Kai has a few options. Evan Peters because of his roles in AHS and Bad Boy Charm, Cole Sprouse because of his work as Jughead in Riverdale and Will in 5 Feet Apart, Chase Stokes from Outer Banks because he has very 'Kai' energy, as in he cares about 'his people' and will do anything to protect them.
Lloyd has a few interesting options as well: David Franco(who voiced him in the movie), Ruby Pankow, who is also in Outer Banks, and David Mazouz, who played Bruce Wayne in Gotham. Franco already has the experience AS Lloyd, I feel like Ruby and Chase would play off each other well as surrogate brothers, and Mazouz does an amazing job at playing a new hero in a world that demands you to step up or step as far away as you can.
These are all my picks for my fan cast! Kinda long, I apologize, but I hope that answers your question!😁
